Job Purpose
Business Architecture is a disciplined approach to describe, analyse, design and transform enterprises by delivering coherent, complete and dynamic business designs to drive successful business transformation. The Business Architecture function operates in two primary areas: firstly, defining the structure of the enterprise in terms of business services, capabilities, processes and information to provide context; secondly, the function ensures solution demands are properly formed and shaped to deliver the desired business outcomes before they enter their formal solution definition stage.
The Business Architecture function has a comprehensive, enterprise wide view of the business and operates across all levels and areas of the organisation. It is responsible for:
- Defining the business architecture of the enterprise in terms of its business models, business processes, business information and business services
- Defining the shape of business solutions to ensure they meet the needs of the business
- Defining the strategy and approach to the evolution of our business services
Main Responsibilities
- Shape business propositions, to investigate business demands and problems, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes.
- Define the structure of the enterprise in terms of its governance, structure, business process and business information considering customers, finances and the market to align strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services, partners and suppliers, organisation, capabilities and key initiatives.
- Develop and maintain the business architecture through analysis and assessment of the business’s capability requirements, business process models, business service architecture and application portfolio demands to support the business’s stated strategic aims.
- Establish the contribution that technology can make to business objectives, drawing up requirements specifications, conducting feasibility studies, producing high-level and detailed business models and preparing business cases.
- Liaise with all technology areas and across the business to ensure business solutions are feasible before handing over to solution architecture.
- Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of the associated business architecture artefacts.
- Provide assistance to other areas of the organisation in the analysis of the underlying issues arising from investigations in to requirements and problems, providing input into the relevant business strategies and identifying the available options for consideration. Recommend appropriate solutions to business problems within the context of the strategic business architecture.
- Deputise for Lead Business Architect.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Previous experiences of business analysis in order to look at business problems, deconstruct them, describe them and identify the real issues in terms that both business and technology stakeholders will understand
- Ability to articulate business strategies at all levels and help to translate these into models of working to help people identify the business solutions to their business challenges
- Experience of business modelling including services and processes across the whole organisation
- Excellent problem solving skills to define solutions to problems
- Experience of solution definition and design
- Communication, motivation, and negotiation skills
- Educated to at least degree level, or equivalent, this role demands a high degree of literacy and numeric capability.
- Significant experience of working across both technology and user areas of business
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are essential.
- Credibility in front business customers at all levels and across the organisation and be able to express complex technical concepts in business terms.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills are required, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
